about navmarker

NavMarker is a "Best Of" list of what's around you.
I can say that confidently because I don't choose what is best. You do. You mark stuff on the map, then push the best to the top, and the worst to the bottom, until it eventually just vanishes.

NavMarker changes daily.
Each day new Markers are added, and old Markers expire. Every Marker is posted with a baseline expiration date, which varies depending on the category. You and others extend that date if you Hype it up, or decrease it so it vanishes faster by marking it Lame.

And even better, some parts of a Marker can be modified by people other than the person who originally marked it. Maybe the spot isn't lame, but could just use some inspiration. You decide. Editing creates even more variety, and hopefully leads to getting the most Hype from each spot marked.

NavMarker is off the beaten path.
It's where you find out what you really want to know about a location. Is it haunted? Did something disturbing happen there? Can I use the restroom? Is there awesomeness that might only appeal to someone like you? Like if you're a geek, an urban explorer, a gossip hound, a ghost hunter, or even a surfer? You are invited to share these types of spots, and then Tweak your radar to show only what you like.

NavMarker is the union of location and media.
Mark spots for things you've seen on the web, and include a link to the page. Or that you saw on TV, and link to the video. Or that you heard on the news, and link to the story. Know where an Internet meme got started? Or where a TV show was filmed? Spot a celeb? Watching some breaking news happen right in front of you? Mark It, and even attach a photo.

NavMarker is the tour guide you wish you always had.
Imagine a guide that shows up half-drunk, fresh off a week-long bender, telling you the real story, often saying things like "you didn't hear this from me", who then points out something that just made getting off your couch worthwhile. That's what NavMarker aims to be. And if the guide (which is actually you and other people on NavMarker) goes a little too far - there will be a place for that too...

If you're over 18, coming soon is BadMarker. It's where those really bad Markers are banished to. If you see something totally NSFW, or so offensive you scream "Why can't I unsee stuff!?", then you send it to BadMarker.

NavMarker is not the encyclopedia on a map.
That's boring. You go to school for boring. Or a museum. Or a snooze tour on a bus with 25 other people taking pictures out of the window. Or perhaps even roadside gift shop to listen to tales of giant balls of yarn. Don't bring that stuff here!

You're on NavMarker because you don't like boring.
You want to be on the streets, immersed in the local culture, finding out what locals do. You actually participate in your world, and want to show others where they can do the same. You're the type who goes crazy if you're stuck taking the same route every day, and thinks routines are for the timid.

But NavMarker only works if you participate.
You hold the secrets. You know your area. You know what might leave others in awe. It's time to share it.

So here you go. This is NavMarker. Where every trip can be different, even if your path remains the same. I hope you find a good use for it.
